We will use the COSMO NWP model to simulate selected events with heavy convective storms accompanied by observed large hail (diameter>3cm). The model will be applied with 2-moment microphysics considering 6 types of hydrometeors (cloud and rain water, ice, snow, graupel, hail). The model domain will cover the Czech Republic with a horizontal resolution of 1.1 km and the model will be initialized using assimilation of radar reflectivity data. The aim of the presentation will be to show whether a NWP model can be used for reasonable nowcasting of severe convective storms with hail.
