The contributions of the seminars Development of Materials Science and Education, September 9-13, 2013 (DMSRE23, Slovakia) and September 8-12, 2014 (DMSRE24, Czech Republic) were published in ``A Special Issue on Development of Materials Science in Research and Education''. In this introductory the program and organization of DMSRE23 and DMSRE24 seminars are shortly summarized.
