A new thermotolerant strain of Scenedesmus sp. with a high specific growth rate and carotenoid productivity was isolated. The strain was successfully tested in an outdoor thin-layer photobioreactor and proved to be robust and contamination resistant. Characteristics of the strain make it a suitable candidate for large-scale production of carotenoid-rich biomass.
