The Earth bow shock is a region where the supersonic solar wind flow is decelerated and deviated to flow along an obstacle consisting of solid Earth and its magnetic field. The shape and dimensions of this boundary depends on upstream conditions as well as on a state of the Earth magnetic field. We have collected a rich set of bow shock crossings over the 8 years of observations of THEMIS and ARTEMIS mission satellites. In the paper we analyze the shape and motion of the bow shock and compare the observations with recent empirical bow shock models as well as with datasets obtained from past missions. Especially, we discuss extreme positions of bow shock crossings.
