Equatorial noise (EN) emissions (also known as the fast magnetosonic waves) are generated by wave interactions with energetic ions near harmonics of their characteristic cyclotron frequencies. These waves propagate both azimuthally and radially in the vicinity of the geomagnetic equatorial plane and we can observed them in a broad interval of L-shells (from L=1.5 to L=10). We use data from 10 years of measurements of the WBD instruments on board the four Cluster spacecraft. The WBD instruments have sufficient resolution for the analysis of the frequency structure of EN. We estimate the radial distance of the source region using the frequency difference between spectral lines for each of the observed cases. We have visually analysed more then 300 events and the frequency structure has been visible in more than 70% of them. The estimated position appears to be located close to the plasmapause and to be dependent on geomagnetic activity.
