The Reka River is the principal surface and underground drainage of the region known as the Classical Karst (SW Slovenian and E Italy). The river enters underground of the Kras Plateau in the Škocjanske Caves (SLO) and appears in subsurface delta composed of number of karst springs around Timavo village (I). Number of deep caves and shafts are developed above the underground course of the river (e.g., Kačna, Labodnica, Grotta Gigante caves), some of them register the extreme groundwater table oscillations during floods. Waters in Timavo springs contain also waters from other than Kras sources, e.g. from areas north of Timavo.
