Článek se věnuje hlavním vývojovým tendencím v myšlení americké historičky novověké anglické literatury a kultury a počátků moderní ekonomické teorie, Catherine Gallagherové. Zvláště si všímá jejího zkoumání dějin těla a tělesnosti, formulování spojitostí sociálního a románového diskurzu v industriální Anglii 19. století nebo estetiky a politické ekonomie či pojetí kontrahistorie jako dějin poražených i kontrafaktové historie.

The article examines the main tendencies in the thought of the American historian of modern English literature and culture and origins of modern economic theory. The main points of inquiry are: Gallagher’s explorations of history of body, her inquiries into the interconnection of social and novelistic discourse or aesthetics and political economy in the 19 th century industrialist England, or her conception of counterhistory as history of the defeated and counterfactual history.
