In the 1620s, Albrecht von Waldstein wholly identified himself with the Holy Roman Empire. This was also expressed in the decoration of his palace in Prague, which he constructed at that time. When we look for celebrations of Waldstein's person or his family, we find nothing. But at the moment we forget his personage and start to look for allusions to his office, the Prince of the Holy Roman Empire is suddenly vividly present. The hero of the Waldstein palace in Prague was not the builder, but the Holy Roman Empire and emperor.
