Die Tagung wurde der frühen Rezeption der Philosophie Immanuel Kants in Deutschland gewidmet. Diese Rezeption ist von einer Renaissance der Skepsis und von deren grundlegenden Einfluss auf die neuere Philosophie gekennzeichnet. In diesem Zusammenhang wurden Themen wie Kants Einstellung zum Skeptizismus, Reinhold als früher Vertreter des Kantianismus, genauso wie Schulze und Maimon als dessen frühe Kritiker untersucht. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wurde auch Fichtes Auseinandersetzung mit der Reinhold-Schulze-Debatte gewidmet. Zuletzt wurde auch die Auswirkung von dieser Debatte im Werk Schlegels, Schellings und Hegels thematisiert.

The conference was devoted to the early reception of the philosophy of Immanuel Kant in Germany. This reception was determined by the renaissance of scepticism and its profound influence on the new philosophy. In this context the topics examined included Kant's notion of scepticism, Reinhold as the early proponent of Kantianism, as well as Schulze and Maimon as their critics. Special attention was paid to the discussion between Reinhold and Schulze. And last, but not least, the consequences of this debate in the work of Schlegel, Schelling and Hegel were dealt with.
