Zájem Montesquieua o přírodní vědy se neomezuje na dobu jeho mládí a projevy pro Akademii v Bordeaux, ale skrze teorii podnebí proniká i do politické teorie. Ve svém náhledu na lidské tělo Montesquieu vychází z Descarta, navzdory jeho omylům přetrvává podle Montesquieua Descartovo dědictví v důrazu kladeném na kritický rozum a boj proti předsudkům.

Montesquieu’s interest in natural sciences is noticeable not only in his Academic discourses but throughout his entire work with his theory of climates. Montesquieu shares the Cartesian mechanistic conception of human body. According to Montesquieu, the heritage of Descartes is essential in freeing men from prejudices and teaching them to use their critical sense.
