In the family of thermal spray technologies a unique place belongs to the water stabilized plasma systems (WSP). Its uniqueness is due to several factors - among others the high power and the high enthalpy of plasma generated from water. Recently a new, so called hybrid system (H-WSP) was developed and successfully applied for spraying. It operates on a combination of WSP with a gas used for ignition of the arc and for helping to modify the plasma jet properties. Basics info on H-WSP is given. In the second part recent results of spraying with WSP and H-WSP are reviewed. Special FGMs are introduced, containing nano particles in an amorphous matrix, sprayed photocatalytic materials, materials for fusion applications, etc.
