In this contribution we compared some ways to evaluate the specific rain attenuation on FSO links. The most accurate solution is the integral over scattering functions and rain spectrum (DSD). To model relationships we computed attenuation as well as rain rate from measured DSD. In practice, it is not very convenient to compute rain attenuation from rain spectrum as it is not usually available on one hand and the computation of integral is not out of problems on the other hand. Therefore we tested also simple power law approximation estimating rain attenuation from rain rate. Rain rate is quite available from cheap rain gauges, however, in our tests we used rain rate computed from measured DSD after equation - due to this we could derive important relationships. First of all, it is our (IAP) power law approximation estimating specific rain attenuation α from rain rate respecting typical DSD. This formula was derived for wave length of 850 nm supposing the same relationship for all usual optical wave lengths.
