The authors identified cytokines which regulate the development of IL-10-producing regulatory B cells (Bregs) in a mouse model. Development of Bregs was significantly enhanced in the presence of IL-12 and IFN-gama, while IL-21 and TGF-beta decreased production of IL-10 from B cells. These results showed that distinct cytokines regulate the development of regulatory T cells and Bregs, and stress the role of cytokines in modulation of specific immunity.
