Kniha pojednává především o vzpomínkách na dětství a mládí německých obyvatel Brna ve 20.–40. letech 20. století. Sestává z úvodní studie, která se zabývá historií Brna, tématem dětství a mládí v etnologické a historické literatuře, metodou orální historie a kontextem vzniku sbírky rozhovorů, dále ze 13 upravených rozhovorů provedených metodou orální historie a konečně z glosáře. Partnery rozhovorů nahraných v letech 2009–2012 byly osoby narozené v letech 1919–1935, které v současné době žijí v Německu, ve Švýcarsku nebo v Brně. Interview nabízejí unikátní pohled na každodenní život v daném období v multietnickém městě Brně. Das Buch widmet sich Erinnerungen von Brünner Deutschen an ihre Kindheit und Jugend in den 1920er–1940er Jahren. Es wird von drei Teilen gebildet: von einer Einführungsstudie, die sich Geschichte der Stadt Brünn, dem Thema Kindheit in der ethnologischen und historischen Literatur, der Oral-History-Methode und dem Kontext der Entstehung der Interview-Sammlung widmet, weiter von 13 bearbeiteten, in den Jahren 2009–2012 aufgenommenen Oral-History-Interviews und schließlich von einem Glossar. Die ausgewählten InterviewpartnerInnen, geboren in den Jahren 1919–1935, leben heutzutage in Deutschland, in der Schweiz oder in Brünn. Die Interviews bieten einen einzelartigen Blick auf das Alltagleben in den 1920er–1940er Jahren in der multiethnischen Stadt Brünn.

The book deals with memories of German inhabitants of Brno of their childhood and youth in the 1920th–1940th. It consists of three parts: firstly of an introduction dealing with history of Brno, with the topic childhood in ethnologic and history literature, with the oral-history-method and with the collection of interviews, secondly of 13 edited oral-history-interviews (conducted in 2009–2012), and finally of a glossary. The interviewees born between 1919 and 1935 live nowadays in Germany, Switzerland, or in Brno. The edited interviews offer unique glimpses of the everyday life in the chosen period in the multi-ethnic city of Brno.
