Microplastic strains occurring at stresses below yield stress play a significant role at cyclic loading of metals during high cycle fatigue. Microplastic strains cannot be measured by common methods due to the discontinuity of their distribution and a varying character of their level in the structure of metal but, however, owing to the magneto-elastic effect the threshold stress, at which dislocation pile-up stresses begin to obstruct the magnetic domains in rotation to the direction of the tensile stress, can be determined from magnetic permeability changes during tensile loading. In this paper, the magnetic permeability changes were measured indirectly – by means of electrical impedance changes (a.c. resistance), as there is a direct functional dependence between the a.c. resistance and the magnetic permeability.
