The results of a serological epidemiological study aimed at monitoring the levels of anti-PAH antibodies and antibodies to PAH-DNA adducts in serum are presented. The studied groups were both subjects with known lung disease (COPD and lung cancer), as well as healthy population of people working or living at the place with expected increased exposure to PAHs. There has also been proved the relevance of still commonly used markers (DNA adducts) and the suitability of new markers as anti-BPDE-DNA and anti-B(a)P IgA antibodies that provide information on exposures to contaminating components of the environment and their effects on the organism.
