Studie se přibližuje Retrospektivní bibliografii české literatury 1770–1945 jako lístkový katalog. Retrospektivní bibliografie české literatury 1770–1945 je nejcennější materiálovou sbírkou uchovávanou a zpracovávanou v Ústavu pro českou literaturu AV ČR. Během bezmála 60 let pro ni bylo vyexcerpováno 525 časopiseckých či novinových titulů vycházejících na území českých zemí v češtině či němčině, přičemž velkorysý excerpční záběr sledoval nejen reflexi české literatury a studie o ní tak, jak je tomu u návazných bibliografických bází Česká literární věda pro období od druhé poloviny 20. stol. až do současnosti, ale též otisky beletrie včetně překladů a kromě literatury české byly excerpovány i texty k literaturám jiných národů, popř. i texty z blízkých oborů – zejména žurnalistiky, historie, divadla a divadelní vědy atp. The study presents Retrospective Bibliography of Czech Literature 1770-1945 as a card catalogue. The Retrospective Bibliography of Czech Literature 1770-1945 is the most valuable collection of material being kept and worked on at the ASCR Institute of Czech literature. Over almost sixty years, 525 journal and newspaper titles published in Czech or German on the territory of the Czech lands were excerpted for it, this large-scale excerption range covering not only reflections and studies of Czech literature, as in the case of subsequent bibliographical bases for present, but also fiction reprints including translations, while in addition to Czech literature, texts from the literatures of other nations were also excerpted, as well as texts from associated subjects, particularly journalism, history, theatre, drama studies and the like.
