    The objective of this contribution is to determine microstructural properties (both textural and transport) of the biocompatible nanofibrous membranes prepared from chitosan and polyurethane polymer solution by electrospinning technique. Nitrogen physical adsorption-desorption measurements, high-pressure mercury porosimetry and helium pycnometry were used for evaluation of the textural properties of nanofibrous samples. Chitosan membranes revealed higher both porosity (81%) and inner surface area (14.5 m2/g) in comparison with polyurethane membranes (porosity of 54% and inner surface area 5.0 m2/g). Transport properties of prepared membranes were tested in a Graham’s diffusion cell as well as permeation cell under laboratory conditions. Four nonadsorbable gases included hydrogen, helium, nitrogen and argon were used both for diffusion and permeation measurements. Very low gas transport resistance for all electrospun membranes was recognized.
