Scientifically scarcely addressed influence of the matrix crystallization processes on the coalescence of dispersed particles i.e., coarsening of the phase structure in quiescent immiscible polymer blends as a result of change in the size of minor phase particles induced by the matrix crystallizing domains, was studied employing the well- established system comprising polypropylene and ethylene-propylene rubber (PP/EPR blends). Experiments were commenced for resolving the correlation among the imposed cooling conditions, the formed matrix crystalline morphology, and the coalescence of the dispersed phase particles. Confirmation of the profound effect of the PP crystallization on the coalescence of EPR particles was undoubtedly obtained. Thorough discussion regarding the observed effects, encompassing the potential rejection or engulfing of the dispersed phase particles by the growing crystallites, was undertaken.
