Monografie se zabývá prinicipy jaderné fyziky a jaderné energetiky. Úvodem jsou uvedeny zdroje energie ve Vesmíru a původ jader. Přehledně jsou zpracovány reakce štěpení, prinicipy jaderných reaktorů a celých jaderných elektráren. Podrobně je studována i fúze jako potenciální zdroj energe, a to zejména: základy fyziky plazmatu, reakce termojaderné fúze a experimentální zařízení pro výzkum a vývoj fúzních reaktorů. Monografie též diskutuje výhody a nevýhody jaderných zdrojů a jejich minulou, přítomnou a perspektivní roli ve společnosti. V neposlední řadě jsou uvažovány možnosti skladování energie. Monografii uzavírá příloha s barevnými obrázky a fotografiemi.

Principles of nuclear physics and nuclear energy are detailed. The origin of nuclei and the energy in the Universe is discussed, and the nuclear fission reactions are overviewed. Principles of nuclear fission reactors and complete nuclear power plants are presented. Fusion as a potential source of energy is studied, in particular: basics of plasma physics, nuclear fusion reactions and the experimental facilities for research and development of fusion reactors. Advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy are discussed as well as past, present and potential roles of the nuclear power sources. Last, but not least the possibility to store the energy produced is studied, and the monography is concluded with an annex of colour pictures.
