The v(4) fundamental band (CO2 antisymmetric stretching mode) of the FCO2 radical in the ground electronic state (X) over bar B-2(2) has been recorded by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy at an effective resolution of 0.003 cm(-1) between 1040 and 1130 cm(-1). FCO2 was generated by vacuum flash pyrolysis at about 350 degrees C of FC(O)OO(O)CF. More than 3300 ro-vibrational transitions have been assigned, which involved levels with N' up to 56 and K-a' up to 38. The observed Doppler-broadened spectrum was analyzed to yield accurate values of the band origin (1094.142210(27)cm(-1), one standard error in parentheses), the rotational constants, the quartic centrifugal distortion constants and electron spin-rotation interaction parameters in the v(4)=1 state. Large variations of the centrifugal distortion parameters Delta(kappa)(+26%), Delta(N kappa) (-1463%) and delta(kappa)(-10%) upon excitation of the v(4) vibration have been observed.
