Electrospun nanofibrous mats prepared by the electrospinning represent currently a novel group of porous carriers for the immobilized heterogeneous catalysts. Sufficiently high the inner surface area together with generally low transport resistance of the nanofibrous mats can compete with the traditionally supported porous catalysts. This contribution is focused on the preparation of platinum catalyst supported on nanofibrous poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) mats. Their catalytic activity was tested in the total oxidation of ethanol in air as a model reaction.
