Magnetic Adaptive Testing (MAT) is a method of nondestructive examination of modifications of microstructure of ferromagnetic materials. It was developed in 2004 in the Institute of Physics, ASCR in Prague and since that time it was successfully applied mainly to ferromagnetic construction matters (steel and cast iron) for determination of their level of industrial degradation. The types of degradation range from elastic and plastic deformation, over embrittlement by neutron irradiation up to local variations of the samples dimensions (like "wall thinning"). The text explains the theory and practice of application of MAT and gives a large number of experimental examples of application.
