Late Ordovician glacial Event has been identified by multidisciplinary studies in the classical sections of southern Austria. Hirnantian δ13C excursion (HICE) has been identified in the Plöcken Formation at Cellon Section. Glaciomarine diamictites encountered in Rauchkofel South and Nölblinggraben sections brought unequivocal sedimentological evidence of the cold water influx during Hirnantian glaciation. Biostratigraphical framework and tools of global correlation have been obtained through Hirnantia shelly fauna, conodonts, chitinozoans and graptolites, including zonal index species Normalograptus persculptus and Parakidograptus acuminatus.
