Publikace vypovídá o vztahu kolegů na pražské české univerzitě a později mladočeských poslanců, sociologa Masaryka (1850-1937) a národohospodáře Kaizla (1854-1901). Kniha obsahuje úvodní studii Cesta Tomáše G. Masaryka a Josefa Kaizla od souhry ke konfrontaci od Martina Kučery. Nejobjemnější část knihy tvoří vědecká edice jejich dostupné, chronologicky uspořádané vzájemné korespondence z let 1884-1895 o 149 dokumentech. Soubor dokumentů nejvýznamnějších protagonistů politického realismu odráží osobnostní a myšlenkový vývoj pisatelů, jejich profesní zájmy a společenské aktivity. Vypovídá nejprve o etapě intenzivní spolupráce při zapojení do aktivní politiky a nakonec o rozchodu obou silných osobností usilujících o nasměrování vývoje českého národa. Aparát publikace zahrnuje též ediční úvod, seznam editovaných dokumentů, osobní rejstřík a obrazovou přílohu.

The publication brings valuable testimony on relations between university colleagues and later deputies for the Young Czech Party, sociologist Masaryk (1850-1937) and an expert on national economy Kaizl (1854-1901). The publication contains an introductory study "From Cooperation between Tomáš G. Masaryk and Josef Kaizl to Confrontations between Science and Politics" written by Martin Kučera. The substantial part of the publication consists of letters between Masaryk and Kaizl in 1884-1895. The collection of correspondence between Masaryk and Kaizl contains 149 documents. The documents are organized chronologically. The collection of documents of major representatives of political realism reflects personal and intellectual development of their authors, their professional interests and social activities. This part of the collection is mainly related to their initial intensive political cooperation, to gradual growth of their controversies and to the final parting of these two personalities influential in orientation of Czech politics. The publication also contains Editorial Introduction, a List of Edited Documents, Index of Names in the book, and several illustrations.
