The book by David I. Steinberg, a prominent American scholar and specialist in Burma´s /Myanmar´s modern history , deals with the crises and the main challenges the country has had to face. The author examines them in a broader historical and chronological order ,and with a perspective of possible social and political changes leading ultimately to democracy. The book , based on the author´s life-long, extensive research into the topic under examination , provides a lot of useful(and often revealing) facts, namely about the role of the military in Myanmar society and politics
