Pavlov VI is one of many Gravettian open-air sites, which are numerous in Czech Republic. It is an approximately 5m in diameter, singular settlement unit. It comprises a central pit with cobbles and traces of fire, surrounded by small pits, and an adjacent accumulation of large mammoth bones. In spite of the low number of mammal remains we can try to reconstruct some of the behaviours of Gravettian hunters from avlov VI. The site was probably located close to the place of a mammoths’ kill/death site. Hunters stayed a longer time at this place and brought here the complete bodies of other prey – horses and wolves. Mammals bones were spread in the area of the site and no concentration of bones was discovered to suggest a special place of human activity connected with skinning, dismembering, or filleting of the carcasses. Bone was also used as fuel. Pavlov VI could be described as a short-term (two-three months) camp site, which was occupied during the warmer part of the year. Accumulation or palimpsest of such camp sites (elemental units) as Pavlov VI probably created large sites such as Pavlov I, Dolní Vĕstonice I and II.
