In this study the subcritical drying technique allowing the direct crystallization of metal oxide aerogels – namely titania, zirconia, titania-zirconia mixtures and titania-ceria mixtures - during drying has been developed. Moreover, the drying conditions for each metal oxide or metal oxide mixtures were optimized in a broad range of temperatures, pressures and flow rates of extraction solvents with the aim to tune textural properties, porosity, structural properties and purity of final aerogels. For preparation of gels from which aerogels are derived the sol-gel process controlled in reverse micellar domains was used.
