    Owing to the aerogel’s high and variable porosity and the high specific surface area they are very attractive and promising in the many application fields as heavy metal adsorbents, additives into building materials, as well in various fields of catalysis. Sol-gel technique commonly used for aerogel preparation in combination with various extraction conditions; temperature and pressure, used extraction medium and its volume etc., open up the possibility to control textural and structural properties of the final porous material. Moreover, the crystallization of metal oxide aerogels with semiconductor properties (e.g. TiO2) could increase their application potential in the field of photoelectrochemical sensors and nanodevices. In this study the effect of various extraction techniques and experimental conditions on textural properties and the crystallization of the single oxide aerogels, TiO2, ZrO2 and CeO2 as well some mixed oxide aerogels, TiO2-ZrO2 and TiO2-CeO2, was investigated.
