In this work we show a novel synthesis based on a modification of the sol-gel process consisting in the combustion of metal acetate-citrate gels. We considered samples doped with Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions playing the role of luminescence activators, with concentrations in the range 0.1-1 %mol. This technique led to the formation of Lu4Hf3O12 powders with particle diameters below 100 nm.
