The responses to temperature changes and to bending of long-period gratings in a novel graded-index fiber are presented. A temperature sensitivity of 0.066 nm/oC and a very low ‘large-curvature’ bend sensitivity equal to or less than 0.04 nm/m-1 are found for an attenuation band at ≈1550 nm, resulting from coupling between the low-order fiber modes LP01 and LP02.
