Phytoremediation is the use of plants to extract, sequester, and/or detoxify pollutants. Phytoremediation is widely viewed as the ecologically responsible alternative to the environmentally destructive physical remediation methods currently practiced. The aim of our work was focused on uptake of heavy metals under laboratory conditions. The plants of onion, leak and garlic were cultivated in the medium at contained two different concentrations of tested metals. We obtained significant accumulation of Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn by all cultivated plants after 12 hours. The amount of these heavy metals was from 10 to 100 times higher than that in control. Results of distribution of heavy metals in different parts of plants will be also presented.
