Článek se zabývá různými aspekty a typy překladu z antické poezie a dramatu do češtiny v 2. polovině 19. století: zaprvé problémem časoměrného překladu oproti překladu založeného na přízvučné nápodobě (J. Král). Druhá část studie sleduje různé pokusy volného překládání ve sledovaném období: básnický překlad (V. B. Nebeský, který předjal Wilamowitzovu substituční metodu), překlad založený na archaizaci (A. Liška, K. Vinařický) a různé druhy rýmovaného přebásnění (F. Šebek, J. Vrchlický).

The paper deals with various aspects of Czech translations of the Classical Greek and Latin poetry and drama in the second half of the 19th century. First, we discuss two competing approaches to translation, namely the older, conventional quantitative translation, and the translation based on stressed imitation of Classical prosody, officially introduced by J. Král in the 1890s, but anticipated already in the poetry of J. Vrchlický and his contemporaries. The second part of the study is devoted to different attempts of free translations of Classical texts: poetic translation (V. B. Nebeský, anticipating Wilamowitz’ method of translation), translation based on archaised style (A. Liška, K. Vinařický), and various types of rhymed poetic translation (F. Šebek, J. Vrchlický).
