Beside the typical applications, characterization of historic mortars can also facilitate the understanding of production technology of historic mortars. Such information is especially needed when a repair mortar based on copying of the original mortar is required. Selected samples of historic mortars from Prague castle were characterised with a special focus on occurrence of binder-related particles (lime lumps). The presence of these lime lumps is discussed along with the general classification of such particles and their technological origins.

Podrobný materiálový průzkum historických malt umožňuje, kromě typických aplikací, porozumění technologie výroby historických malt. Takovéto informace jsou zejména potřebné, pokud je navrhována nová malta pro opravu na základě kopie historické malty. Vybrané vzorky historických malt z Pražského hradu byly zkoumány se speciálním zaměřením na výskyt pojivových kusů. Výskyt těchto kusů je popsán a diskutován společně s jejich klasifikací ve spojení s jejich technologickým původem.
