Coccinella septempunctata consumed the toxic aphid Aphis sambuci at twice the rate of the two essential prey species, Acyrthosiphon pisum and Aphis philadelphi. The stages and genders of the ladybirds did not differ in their preference for aphid species. A. sambuci is usually avoided by C. Septempunctata in the field. Our hypothesis that the ladybirds should be able to distinguish among suitable and unsuitable aphids was rejected.

Slunéčko sedmitečné konzumovalo toxický druh mšici bezovou dvakrát více než dva chutné druhy mšic, kyjatku hrachovou a mšici pustorylovou. Vývojová stádia a pohlaví slunéček se v preferenci mšic nelišila. Slunéčko sedmitečné se v přírodě obvykle vyhýbá mšici bezové. Hypotéza, že slunéčka by měla být schopna rozlišit mezi vhodnou a nevhodnou poravou, byla vyvrácena.
