Non-homogeneous transitory flow of a thixotropic fluid suspension is simulated numerically as well investigated experimentally. The purpose is to determine position and the movement of the interphase boundary between the liquid and solid-like state of the flowing suspension. The motion of the boundary is observed in the suspension surface between two coaxial cylinders with a wide gap. The video camera is used for recording the interphase boundary movement in an unsteady flow. The ultrasound Doppler anemometer is employed for the measurement of the velocity distribution in the gap. The computed evolution of the interphase boundary in an unsteady flow as well as the velocity distribution in the gap is compared with the corresponding experimental values.
