The paper focuses on the effects of magnetic saturation in a segmented synchronous reluctance machine on its operating properties. This work has been motivated by an effort to analyze and possibly improve the properties of a practical drive using a low-speed synchronous reluctance machine in a special application in a reactor of a nuclear power plant. The effect of magnetic saturation on higher space harmonics of magnetic field in the gap of the machine is investigated.
