The intensity of lymphocyte reaction depends on the genetic differences between donors of the responding andstimulating cells. In mice, the strongest response is induced by the differences in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and Mls1 antigen. However, even with comparable differences in these antigens, some mousestrains respond better than other, which means that the intensity of this reaction can be influenced by other factors. Using the binding analysis of F2 hybrids between the strains ocB-9 and O20 carrying identical MHC antigens, we have identified a new locus Alan 2 (Alloantigen response 2) on chromosome 4, which controls the response to alloantigens C57L/10, BALB/c, and CBA.
