Sustainable development from regional point of view means diminishing of social and economic disparities among regions. In European level exist indicators how to sort regions to so call less developed ones with need of support from EU structural funds. In case- study focused on allocation marginal areas in the Czech Republic we tried to examine the level of Czech regional policy and its preparedness to use structural funds of EU. As a spatial indicator of sustainable development we choose emergence and existence of so called marginal areas. Dealing with marginal areas we must take into account the important role of criterion we are concerned. We speak about marginality in according the specifying conditions. One area considered as marginal from one point of view could be seen prosperous from the other one. We can distinctive economic, social, cultural, political environmental etc. kind of marginality. Marginal areas represent several types of marginality cumulated just in one area. Marginal in our case study means economic weak region which is on the border of economic and political interest. In general there are boundary and rural regions with weaknesses of developmental resources such as good quality of soil, labor and financial capital.
