Fluorinated building blocks, 2-(perfluorohexyl)-ethyl triflate (1a) and 2-(perfluorooctyl)ethyl triflate (1b) were prepared from corresponding fluoroalcohols and triflic anhydride. Fluorinated triflates 1 were employed for the preparation of bis(polyfluoroalkylated) cyclopentadienes 2, which are perspective ligands for homogeneous catalysts used in fluorous biphase systems. Fluorotriflates 1 are also excellent substrates for preparation of various polyfluorinated compounds, e.g. nitriles or azides, by nucleophilic substitution.
