In my paper I have attempted to point out that philosophy as a specific discipline emerges inly in Plato. The analysis of Parmenides poem and Plato's early dialogues shows that these texts do not employ a theoretical investigation which the definition of philosophy presupposes; the main purpose of these texts is not the theoretical inquiry but they have practical character - they attempt to reform the contemporary paideutic religious system.
