Es wird gezeigt, dass die indogermanischen Kasus nicht eine relationelle, sondern eine referentielle Semantik aufweisen. Dies kommt u.a. in der engen Verknüpfung der Kasus- und Numeruskategorie und in der Relevanz der lexiko-semantischen Klassen der Animata und Inanimata zutage. Die unterschiedliche Syntax der Neutra wird in den alten und archiscchen indogermanischen Sprachen in Resten bewahrt, die Kaussform auf - e wird bei den Animata als Dual, während bei den Inanimata als Instrumental paradigmatisiert. Aufgrund sieser Auffassung werden neue Beobachtungen zur Rekonstruktion und zur Paradigmatisierung und semantischen Profilierung der Kasus in Einzelsprachen gemacht.

The author argues that the Indo-European cases display referential, non-relational semantics. The close connection between case and number categories and the relevance of the lexico-semantic classes of animates and inanimates attest this semantic orientation. The different syntax of neuters is in remnants attested to in ancient and archaic Indo-European languages, the case form in -e gives dual of animates, whereas instrumental of inanimates. Some new observations concerning reconstruction as well as paradigmatization and semantic profilation of cases in the development of Indo-European languages are made on the basis of this conception.
