We include in the arachnofauna of the Czech Republic 830 spider species belonging to 37 families up to 31 December 2000. Each species in the catalogue is presented by a set of data and characteristics: synonymy, important references, distribution, originality of habitat, phytogeographical district, altitude, stratum inhabited, characterization of requirements of light an humidity, number of map fields in which the species has been recorded, the degree of vulnerability, typical habitats in which the species occurs, the abundance in the geographical sense. We use a Cetral European grid map for the presentation of distribution of species. Records up to 1950 and records after 1950 are distinguished. Czech arachnological bibliography containing 660 items is included. The territory of Czech Republic is crucial from the viewpoint of the development of European nature in the last period of Quaternary. The Catalougue carries out the aims of the international project "Systematics Agenda 2000: Charting the Biosphere".
