An LC/ESI/MS/MS method was developed for quantitative analysis of peptide from the adipokinetic hormone/red pigment concentrating hormone family (AKH/RPCH family) in insects. With the developed methodology low femtomole levels can be detected allowing thus direct AKH sequencing and analysis in the corpora cardiaca (CC) from one individual insect Using this method the second AKH in the CC of P. apterus was identified:pGlu-Leu-Thr-Phe-Thr-Pro- Asn-Trp-NH2: the peptide was called the Pya-AKH-II
