Long-period gratings /LPGs/ are periodic refractive-index variations in the fiber core which couple light from the fundamental core mode to forwards-propagating cladding modes. LPGs are attractive devices for applications in optical communications and optical sensors of various quantities. This contribution is aimed at experimental investigation of responses of the LPG to changes of the refractive index of the external medium for this purpose a thin layer of selected polymer was coated on LPG and its refractive was varied thermally in a controlled manner.
