Several scales of steric effects of the alkyl groups were suggested on the basis of isodesmic model reactions, in which a crowded molecule is formally synthesized from simpler derivatives. Reaction energies were either calculated at the level B3LYP/6-311+G(d.p)//B3LYP/6-311+G(d.p) or taken from experimental data. The scales of steric effects evaluated from various models were rather different. Any universal scale is thus not possible and only very rough correlations of steric effects can be found.

Bylo navrženo několik stupmic sterických efektů alkylových skupin na základě isoodesmických modelových reakcí, při nichž stericky přeplněná molekula je formálně syntetizována z jednodušších molekul. Reakční energie byly buď vypočteny na úrovni B3LYP/6-311+G(d.p)//B3LYP/6-311+G(d.p) nebo vzaty z experimentálních dat. Stupnice sterických efektů vypočtené z různých modelů byly značně odlišné. Universální stupnice proto není možná a je možno nalézt jen velmi hrubé korelace.
