The study found out that germination characteristics of two invasive Heracleum species differ. While H. mantegazzianum has short-term persistent soil seed bank and seeds persist in soil more than three years this one of H. sosnowskyi has transient soil seed bank and all seeds germinate immediately after stratification. The European distribution of these two Heracleum species is also distinct, with H. sosnowskyi confined to tne northern and eastern parts of the continent and H. mantegazzianum having the centre of the invaded distribution range in central a nd western Europe. Nevertheless the germination characteristics of H. sosnowskyi indicate that invasion by this species is unlikely to be limeted by temperature and its current distribution seems to be driven mainly by human activities. On the other hand the distribution of H.mantegazzianum in Czech Republic is significantly affected by the temperature in January as well as by human population density.

Studie prokázala, že oba druhy se výrazně liší jak typem půdní semenné banky tak i klíčením semen. Zatímco H. mantegazzianum má krátkodobě vytrvalou půdní banku semen, kdy semena v půdě vytrvávají více než tři roky, H. sosnowskyi má pouze přechodnou půdní banku semen, kdy všechna semena vyklíčí na jaře bezprostředně po stratifikaci. Oba druhy se liší i svým druhotným rozšířením v Evropě. H. sosnowkyi se vyskytuje v severní a východní části kontinentu, zatímco H. mantegazzianum má centrum rozšíření ve střední a západní Evropě. Nicméně na základě studia reprodukčních charakteristik se zdá, že toto rozšíření není u druhu H. sosnowskyi limitováno teplotou, ale je spíše řízeno lidskými aktivitami. Rozšíření H. mantegazzianum je v České republice významně ovlivněno lednovou teplotou spolu s lidskou činností a to zejména s hustotou lidské populace.
