The publication is the first devoted entirely to histopathology of fish infections caused by protistan and myxosporean agents. Separate groups of these parasites are introduced by a brief characterisation and photographs representing their typical species as seen in fresh preparations for comparison with their appearance in stained tissue sections. The variability of changes elicited by protists and myxozoans in fish tissues and organs is documented in a series of full-page plates of black and white and colour photographs. In addition to tissue changes, the atlas yields an insight into defence reactions towards such pathogens and expands the existing knowledge of the parasites in question. A short survey of fish histology and basic pathological processes is also presented to provide a handy comparison with histopathological alterations described in the main part of publication.

Obsahem publikace je histopatologie ryb zaměřená na infekce, které vyvolávají protista a myxozoa. Jednotlivé skupiny potenciálních a skutečných patogenů - původců tkáňových změn jsou stručně charakterizovány včetně obrázků, které je znázorňují in vivo. Formou celostránkových černobílých a barevných tabulí je demonstrována variabilita změn, které reprezentanti jednotlivých skupin patogenních agens působí v tkáních a orgánech ryb. Kromě speciální histopatologické části obsahuje publikace i stručný přehled histologické stavby orgánů ryb a přehled základních patologických procesů, což umožňuje srovnávat tkáňové leze s normální stavbou tkání.
