At the end of the 19th century, Czechs were not allowed to have a parliament in which they could decide on their own matters and this explains why they built a museum resembling a parliament building. In it, they set up a Pantheon resembling a hall of fame of a military museum, which they also lacked. The identification of Czechs with the monumental building of their National museum explains why this cosmopolitan architecture could acquire and retain its patriotic aura.

Na konci 19. století si Češi nemohli postavit budovu parlamentu, v níž by rozhodovali o svém osudu, a proto si postavili muzejní budovu podobající se parlamentu. V ní byl zřízen Pantheon, jenž se podobal síni slávy vojenského muzea, které tu rovněž chybělo. Identifikace Čechů s monumentální budovou jejich Národního muzea vysvětluje, jak mohla tato kosmopolitní architektura získat a udržet si vlasteneckou auru.
