Here we describe a novel family of Ty3/gypsy retrotransposon in Silene latifolia. An interesting feature of this retrotransposon is the presence of tandem repeat and two additional ORFs at the 3'end. This retrotransposon is transcriptionaly active and is localized at subtelomeres of all chromosomes. There is 5000 copies of this element in the genom with about 50% of non-autonomous elements lacking genes but have more amplified tandem repeat.

Popsali jsme novou rodinu retrotransposonů typu Ty3/gypsy u Silene latifolia. Zajímavým rysem je přítomnost tandemové repetice, přítomnost dalších dvou ORF na 3-konci. Tento retrotransposon je transkripčně aktivní a je lokalizován v subtelomerách všech chromosomů. Nachází se v genomu v počtu asi 5000 kopií, přičemž asi polovinu tvoří neautonomní elementy, u nichž chybí geny, a je u nich více amplifikovaná tandemová repetice.
